Today for the first time this year we’re going to recommend a parlay.  It’s all about Chicago today, as the Cubs travel to the Pirates and the White Sox visit the Indians.  The Pirates and Indians are both pretty poor team, although the Pirates do play surprisingly well at home.  The key to this parlay is Zack Duke for the Pirates.  He’s 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in his last 3 starts, but I think he’s been pitching a bit over his head.   To add to this, Derek Lee, Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley all hit Duke and lefthanders in general well.  It’s going to be a tough battle for Duke to get through the lineup 3 times unscaved.

Today’s pitching matchup has Brian Bannister for the Royals going against Brian Mohler for the Astros.  Moehler has won his last two starts, but don’t be fooled by that.  He has not been pitching that great.  His ERA is 4.50 in the two wins and is 5.63 in the last 4 starts.  Brian Bannister on the other hand got hammered in his first start of the month, but since then has started 3 games and a 1.29 ERA, giving up only 14 total hits in the 21 innings of work during this time.

Johnson does not have what he once does, but he can pitch well for  5 or 6 innings and against certain teams.  In his last start against the A’s he went 7 innings and only gave up 4 hits and 2 ER.  He’s 14-9 lifetime against the A’s but I don’t consider that a worthy stat to consider since he is just a shell of hisself in his prime.  The key to this game is that the Giants are facing Gio Gonzalez, a lefhander who just isn’t a very good Major League pitcher.  He does get some strikeouts, but his contol kills him.  7 walks in 8 innings this year and 32 walks in 43 innings in his Big League career.  He ERA is over 7 this year and career also.  Unless he comes up with the game of his life, the Giants should score enough to take care of Randy.  Take the Giants +105.

Today’s matchup puts Matt Harrison for the Rangers against Max Scherzer for the Dbacks.  Harrison is going to be pitching in his 2nd game since coming of the 15 day DL.  He pitched pretty well in his first game back going 5 innings and giving up 6 hits and 3 ER’s.  He should be able to get back into the form he was in previous to his injury, where he won 3 games in  a row between May 3rd and May 14th, giving up only 2 ER in 15 innings.

Max Scherzer for the Dbacks is a very tough pitcher.  He’s only given up 2 ER in his last 19 innings and aside from a horrible game against the Braves about 3 weeks ago, he has a 2.42 ERA in his other 5 starts in the last month.

I’d be suprised if either team can muster up 5 runs, let alone both getting there to go over 9.  Take the Under 9 in this one at Pinnacle and get +103 right now.

It’s a light schedule in the Big Leagues today, but there is definitely a game we like today.

The A’s are starting Jonathan Sanchez today.  This is probably his last shot before getting replaced in the rotation and I don’t see anything changing from his previous starts.  He’s given up 27 hits in his last 18 innings.  He’s also given up 15 ER during that same time and has an 0-3 record.  He faces Trevor Cahill, who has been very tough for the last month.  He consistently gives up less than 3 runs per start (6 of his last 6 have been 3 runs or less) and pitches excellent at home.  Look for the A’s to get to the lefthander Sanchez and knock him out of the Giants starting rotation.  I like the A’s in a one sided game in this one.

The Rays have been on a nice roll lately, winning 6 in a row.  They’ve got a young pitcher named David Price going today.  The average fan doesn’t know much about David Price since he’s only pitched in 9 MLB games, but this kid is a stud.  Price was the 1st overall pick in the 2007 MLB Draft.  He worked hit way up through A, AA, and AAA last season, making it to the Big Leagues by the end of the year and posting a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings.  He walks too many batters right now, but he is a future ace.  The Rockies should have a tough time hitting him, but will probably get a few on a walk and a HR at some point.  The Rays bats should be enough to overcome a few runs and get their 7th straight win.  Take the Rays +110
