In a battle between 2 nice pitchers Clayton Kershaw goes up against Yovani Gallardo.  Both pitchers are capable of and probably will throw up a bunch of goose eggs during this one.  The edge has to go to the Dodgers in offense though and the Brewers have been struggling lately.  The lefty Kershaw should be able to keep Fielder in check and lead the Dodgers to a victory in this one.  Take the Dodgers +121 in a well pitched game.

Tonight’s game features a matchup of not very good pitchers.  The Marlins throw Sean West while the D-Backs throw John Garland.  The difference in this one should be the bats… and the D-Backs bats have been hot.  Except for a meltdown 2 days ago when the D-Backs blew a 7-0 lead, the D-Backs have been playing well and hitting well.  They are In the last week they are 6-1 (the one loss being the meltdown) and have scored 11, 4, 6, 4, 6, 7, and 8 runs.  I don’t see West slowing the D-Backs down tonight in Arizona.  Take the D-Backs -123.

Today’s match-up features Chris Carpenter vs Rich Harden.  Harden has been just awful recently and something seems wrong with him.  A career 3.45 ERA, he’s at 6.28 in his last 3 games and 5.35 for the season.  Also, his career hits to innings pitched ratio is .81 hits per inning, while this season it is it’s over 1.  Chris Carpenter on the other hand is coming off a 7 inning, 1 ER performance.  He’s 8-3 with a 2l.93 ERA lifetime against the Cubs and 1-0 this year going 5 innings and giving up 0 ER.  All signs point to a Cardinals victory.  Take the Cardinals -107 at Pinnacle.

The D-Backs and Max Scherzer visit Jorge De La Rosa and the Rockies.  Jorge had a great outing in his last game against the the A’s and has won 4 of his last 5 starts.  On a down side, his ERA this year against right handed batters is 5.97 and the D-Backs can throw up some solid right handed power against him in the high altitude of Colorado.

Scherzer has been solid all year and his 5-5 record is very deceiving.  He could easily have 8 or 9 wins this year with any type of bullpen support earlier in the season.  In the last 30 days he’s pitched 29 innings and given up only 7 ER, for a 2.17 ERA and that’s with a 3ER in 4 IP outing last game when the D-Backs committed 4 errors behind him.

Look for Scherzer to do what he normally does, hold the opponent to just a few runs and look for the D-Backs power to come through in this one.  Take the D-Backs +121.

Well, I guess I was wrong about Marquis not being a good pitcher yesterday.  I think a two hitter might qualify someone as a pretty good pitcher.  Hey, you can’t win ‘em all… but when you win over 50% picking underdogs, you still do alright

Can Matt Cain hold down Albert Pujols?  Can anyone hold him in check these days?  It’s a tough task for sure.  Matt Cain is 9-2 for the year and is 1-0 this year vs the Cardinals, giving up only 1 earned run in 6 innings.  Adam Wainright is 8-5 this year, but 0-1 against the Giants, getting hammered for 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.  This game should be a well pitched game on both sides.  I don’t expect the Giants to damage Wainright quite as badly this time out, but I do expect them to get a few runs between Aaron Rowand and Pablo Sandoval.  Take the Giants plus 133.

The Dodgers take on the Rockies today in Los Angeles.  It’s Billingsley for the Dodgers against Marquis for the Rockies.  Marquis is not that great of a pitcher.  Yes, he’s 9-5 on the year, but he started out 4-1 with a 3.31 ERA and it’s been going the wrong way since then.  He gives up a lot of hits and walks and is not a strikeout pitcher, so he is going to have a very tough time with the Dodger bats.  Billingsley on the other hand should be able to keep the Rockies off balance.  He’s coming off a poor start which is why I expect him to reall clamp down and thow up a bunch of zeros on the board tonight.  Take the Dodgers -1.5 at home on this one for +139 at Pinnacle right now.
